We are back again with another QR Code review. The QR Code was placed in a half-page newspaper advertisement by Intec Air Conditioners, a leading manufacturer and assembler of consumer durables in India.
1. Black and white QR Code instead of designer
For this newspaper advertisement, Intec could have merged a transparent QR Code with the background graphics or images. Instead a plain black and white code was used.
2. No call-to-action to scan the code and instructions missing
We have reiterated this frequently that brands should direct their customers to scan the code and provide a hint as to what they should expect. The audience has absolutely no reason to scan this code.
3. A non-trackable code used
Intec could have used a trackable or dynamic QR Code instead of a simple static code. Trackable codes would have allowed Intec to edit content and track number of scans. With that, Intec could have analyzed their reach and even captured a few leads.
4. Landing page is a mobile-optimized website of Intec
This was a good move by Intec to keep the landing page mobile-optimized. Far too many brands ignore this best practice (Read my post on QR Code Best Practices) leading to a negative user experience. Readers interested in air conditioners can browse Intec’s products easily on their mobile-optimized website
