You’ve probably travelled by air and seen long queues to board the flight. These queues take a lot of time and are tiresome for passengers.

To make the process faster and better, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport in Mumbai (India) has decided to stop stamping of boarding passes.

This will be applicable for all the passengers boarding domestic flights. That means passengers can now simply check-in and zip through. Simple as that.

To do this, Mumbai Airport has adopted DigiYatra—a scheme that aims to make air travel easier.

How will it work?

Passengers will first have to register with DigiYatra. Only then will they be able to skip stamping of boarding passes at Mumbai Airport.

Once they register, they’ll get an identification number. This number will have to be submitted at the airport. Note that one has to do it only while travelling for the first time after registration.

Next, their biometric details will be captured at the desk for one time.

As one completes this process, she’ll have to do the following:

1. Present the boarding pass at the e-gate of airport terminal

2. The boarding pass will bear a QR Code. This QR Code will act as a link to all the flight information

3. Once e-gate captures the details, they’ll be matched with those in the database

4. As details match, she can enter the gates through check-in, security, and boarding

Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) said:

“We have the e-gates ready at Terminal 2 (T2). And will eliminate stamping of boarding passes by security personnel as soon as we get the go ahead.”

By doing this, Mumbai Airport aims to provide a harmonious travel experience.

Similar system is expected to roll out at Chennai Airport and all the other major Indian Airports too. This is one way how City Administrations across the world are using QR Codes.

That’s all you need to know on Mumbai Airport deciding to stop stamping of boarding passes.
