You probably travel in metro trains and know what metro smart cards are. One uses these smart cards to pay the metro fare. But can you use them to make payments for bus fare, parking, and shopping too? Probably yes! The users of soon-to-open Aqua Line of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC)— India, will be able to use their metro smart cards for all these purposes.

“The NMRC has partnered with SBI for the ‘City 1′ cards which could be used on the metro rail. They can also be used in Noida city buses, parkings, and even as debit card for shopping.”— PD Upadhyay, Executive Director, NMRC

NMRC will also have QR Coded paper tickets for single journeys. Additionally, there will also be the option to use a smartphone app to check-in and check-out. But passengers will not be able to use Delhi Metro smart card on the Aqua line.

How will the payments work at NMRC

Passengers will be able to pay their metro fare in three different ways:

  1. Noida Metro smart card
  2. QR Coded paper tickets
  3.  Smartphone based payment

i. Noida Metro Smart Card

Passengers will have to use the NMRC smart card while checking-in the metro.  And then use it to check-out during exit.

This will deduct the metro fare automatically.

ii.  QR Coded paper tickets

The ticket will have a QR Code printed on it.

One will have to tap the QR Code on Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gate to check-in or check-out.

Also, if you happen to regularly travel between stations A and B,  you’ll be able to avail best fare for that route.

iii. Smartphone App

NMRC launched mobile application—Noida Metro (NMRC)—to help passengers buy tickets on 6th Feb, 2019.

People can download the app from Google Play store on android phones and purchase tickets. This is how it works:

1. Open the app to select source and destination stations

2. The app will show you the fare

3. Make payments

4. You’ll get a QR Code which will be valid for 30 minutes. This QR Code will need to be scanned at metro’s AFC gate after which it will turn green (allowing entry)

5. As you scan it again while exiting, it will turn red

“People nowadays have already have so many cards and papers to carry.  Why add more to it. The NMRC will have a mobile app which will be linked to SBI wallet. The app will have a QR Code which users could use for entry and exit.”— PD Upadhyay, Executive Director, NMRC
