Campaign Objective
To make a bold statement for the Beazley brand by executing a record-setting drone display – grabbing public attention and driving onlookers to engage via QR scan, purely out of astonishment and curiosity.
Campaign Story
In April 2023, during a company event, Beazley orchestrated London’s first drone-created QR code. Hundreds of synchronized drones first danced above the Thames, then coalesced into a massive purple QR code hovering near Canary Wharf. For about 20 seconds, the code hung in the sky, prompting viewers to point their phones upward. Those who scanned were directed to a Beazley landing page. Although the glowing QR was primarily visible to event guests (and baffled passersby with no context), the story generated global press as a futuristic marketing experiment marrying offline and online.
Execution
Planned a drone light show for Beazley’s private event in London
Programmed 400 drones to form various shapes, culminating in a scannable QR code 300 feet wide in the night sky
Ensured the QR pattern was technically scannable by smartphones from the ground, linking to a Beazley promotional webpage
Executed the show at night along the River Thames to maximize visibility
Leveraged social media and press coverage the next day to amplify the stunt’s reach far beyond the immediate audience.
